The Orioles' Aubrey Huff was
awarded the Silver Slugger award Thursday as the
top designated hitter in the American League. The
award, voted on by coaches and managers, is given
to the best offensive producer at each position in
both leagues.
It's the first Silver Slugger award for Huff, who
became the eighth different Oriole to garner the honor
and the first since shortstop Miguel Tejada did it in
2005.
"It's a tremendous honor for me and something I've
always wanted to win," said Huff, who led the A.L. with
82 extra-base hits to go along with 32 home runs and
108 RBIs. "Some guys try to win a Gold Glove, but as a
DH, this is the ultimate honor for an offensive
player."
