Saints Sign Tanard Davis

TanardDavis
The Saints also signed defensive back Tanard Davis to their practice squad, replacing Quincy Butler, who was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to their active roster. Davis is a 25-year-old first-year player who has spent time on the practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers and was in training camp with the St. Louis Rams this summer. The former University of Miami defender spent a week on the active roster of the Philadelphia Eagles late in the 2007 season but was inactive in their season finale.

Rams sign Tanard Davis

TanardDavis
Andre Dyson? Ty Law? Turns out the Rams went the "other guy" route to add depth to the cornerback position, signing Tanard Davis. Davis was signed last December by the Eagles from the Carolina practice squad. Davis is fast, but has bounced around the league as, mostly, a training camp depth guy. That's most likely what he'll be with the Rams.

Tanard Davis Cut

TanardDavis
Cornerback Tanard Davis, a late-season pickup in 2007, was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fun fact:  Davis won a Super Bowl ring with the Colts in 2006 despite spending most of the season on the practice squad, then went to Carolina's practice squad for 2007, from which he was signed by the Eagles the day after Christmas.  He tried to learn how to return punts this year, a task for which much of the local media ridiculed him.  1) I'm not really that cool on dragging down the guys who are just trying to do anything they can to get their shot.  2) If you think returning punts is so easy, go try it sometime.  Regardless, he's gone.

Tanard Davis Gets Reps as PR

TanardDavis
The Philadelphia Daily News reports Eagles CB Tanard Davis got some punt-return reps yesterday. Davis is probably not a threat to unseat rookie WR DeSean Jackson. During the return work, Davis looked like he'd been spun around blindfolded before being asked to track the ball.

Tanard Davis To Return Punts

TanardDavis
Rory Seagrest strongly implied that one way or another a rookie will be returning punts this season.

"(WR) Bill Sampy is back there, J.R. is still back there, (CB) Tanard Davis is a guy who we've put back and let him catch a few balls. We've got some pretty good backups. Right now we're trying to get DeSean and Quintin(Demps) as many reps as we can get those guys to get them comfortable back there, but we do have some down-the-line guys as well."
