D.J. Williams ruling not surprising

There is no doubt D.J. Williams will miss the first six games of the season.

But there was really never any doubt. I never got the sense from the Broncos they thought the outside linebacker would be available to them early in the season. That certainly was the way Denver head coach John Fox operated. Williams rarely hit the field during the training camp and he has been an afterthought all summer.

And it will continue that way now that the Denver Post reported Williams lost his federal appeal of a lawsuit after he was given a six-game NFL suspension for using a banned substance.

Williams could potentially miss more time stemming from a recent alcohol-related driving conviction. It was his second such conviction in seven years.
