The University of Miami Hurricanes upset the 5th ranked Trojans of the University of Southern California 10-7 in front of 51,156 in the Orange Bowl !  In the first ever game between the two schools, the Canes, under the direction of Coach Charlie Tate, beat the undefeated Trojans, led by legendary Coach John McKay.  Miami would go on to an 8-2-1 record, including a 14-7 victory in the Liberty Bowl over Virginia Tech, to finish ranked #9 in the AP poll.  The Trojans, would win the Pac-10 conference and go to the Rose Bowl.
The Canes were led by UMSHoF members, quarterback Bill Miller and receiver Jim Cox.  The defense was led by All Americans and UMSHoF members Tom Beier and Ted Hendricks !

Miami might have had a little luck in the scheduling...USC had Heisman winner Mike Garrett in 1965, who graduated...and would have O.J. Simpson in 1967.
