Brought to you by the UM Sports Hall of Fame!
In the First Ever matchup in Tallahassee, the Miami Hurricanes defeated the FSU Seminoles 40-13 in front of a less than sold out crowd of 15,712 fans at Doak Campbell Stadium ! It was Miami's 5th consecutive victory over the former
Florida State College for Women's football team !
Led by UMSHoF member QB Fran Curci, the Canes overcame a 7-6 Noles halftime lead and sprinted to the victory with the help of halfback Joe Plevel's 3 touchdowns. Plevel proved a capable replacement for 1956 All American halfback and UMSHoF member Don Bosseler ! Coach Andy Gustafson's squad also got touchdowns from Bill Sandie, Phil Geatz and Byron Blasko.
Curci would go on the garner First Team All American honors in 1959, as well as being named an Academic All American ! He would return to Miami as an assistant coach, and was the Canes head coach in 1971 and 1972.
